North can launch Brisbane Roar’s ACL campaign

VETERAN defender Jade North is set make his senior return from a long-term groin injury when Brisbane Roar host Filipino club Ceres-Negros in Tuesday night's AFC Champions League playoff.

North, 36, has not played first-team football since the Roar's 0-0 A-League draw with Central Coast Mariners on November 5.

But he had 45 minutes of action as an over-age player in Brisbane's 1-0 National Youth League loss to Perth Glory at Lanham Park last Friday.

Roar coach John Aloisi saw enough to be satisfied North can contribute tomorrow night at the Queensland Sport and Athletics Centre at Nathan.

"Jade will definitely play some part of the game," Aloisi said.

North's return is timely as the Roar start the juggle of continental and domestic commitments.

If, as expected, Brisbane beat Ceres-Negros, they will play in China in another playoff a week later against Tianjin Quanjian.

In between they have A-League commitments on Saturday night in Gosford against the Central Coast Mariners.

As revealed by The Courier-Mail last week, Danish midfielder Thomas Kristensen isn't a part of the Roar's Champions League playoff squad due to foreign player restrictions, and former Socceroos star Brett Holman won't travel to China if Brisbane win.
