Roar coach excited by new signing

FOOTBALL: Socceroo Brett Holman's arrival at the Brisbane Roar will add plenty of experience to the side.

Holman has played top-flight football in England with Aston Villa and Holland with AZ Alkmaar.

Add to that his 63 appearances with the Socceroos capped by two goals at the 2010 World Cup.

"There's been conversation between the club and I for some time now and my gut said that this was the right move for me,” Holman said on his arrival in Brisbane yesterday.

"A lot of footballers know that you need to have a gut feeling about what sort of moves you make.”

He said he was excited at the prospect of playing with Thomas Broich.

"I've only heard good things and he's been great for the A-League,” Holman said.

"He's been a one-club man and he's done some terrific things for Brisbane.”

Holman said his relationship with coach and former Socceroo teammate John Aloisi influenced his decision to join the Roar.

Aloisi said Holman's experience would benefit the Roar's squad.

"I've known Brett for a long time, firstly as a player, so I know about his quality,” Aloisi said.

"His quality is going to only help us on the pitch, help the young players improve, and that's why we went so hard to bring him to the club.”

Holman won't have much time to get over his flight as he trains with the Roar today.
