Road show in top gear to encourage people to buy local
IN A first of its kind for the region, a road show is touring the Gladstone area in a bid to encourage people to buy locally - by providing information and support to business owners and consumers.
Gladstone Chamber of Commerce and Industry president Rick Hansen said the Impact Road Show aimed to provide a more effective understanding of local businesses.
"This way we are going straight to the businesses, understanding their concerns… it's a better way of understanding how businesses operate and what customers want," he said.
The Impact Road Show kicks off on Tuesday from 9am to 4pm at Stockland Plaza, before travelling to Calliope, Tannum Sands, Agnes Water and Boyne Island over the next two weeks.
The tour includes information for business owners and the opportunity to contribute to the Gladstone Region Business Study.
Consumers and businesses will also have the chance to consult GCCI on local issues.
Cr Hansen said buying locally helped employ young people and supported sporting and community organisations.
"We just want people to look here before they buy somewhere else. They may be surprised," he said.
Among the businesses on tour, The Observer will be available to give readers a chance to have their say on what issues are important to them.
