Six-vehicle pileup from smoke
THICK smoke from a controlled burn-off caused a six-car pileup on Lowmead Road, Rosedale, yesterday.
The six cars travelling along Lowmead Road, about four kilometres south of Tablelands Road, piled into each other “tip to tail” in thick smoke about noon yesterday.
One vehicle caught fire and was destroyed.
A doctor arrived on the scene quickly and assessed the injuries.
Eight people suffered minor injuries including neck and upper body injuries.
Six people were taken to Bundaberg Hospital by Queensland Ambulance Service and one person was flown to Bundaberg Hospital by the Bundaberg Rescue Helicopter.
Another person was taken by road to Gladstone Hospital as a precaution for spinal injuries.
The road was closed to traffic for several hours and re-opened about 3.30pm.
All vehicles were towed from the scene.
Contrary to reports by southern media and internet news the accident was caused by thick smoke from a burn-off and that a bushfire was not triggered by the accident.
