Road to close as Wiggins rail work continues

CALLIOPE River Road at Yarwun will be closed from 9am to 3pm daily between Monday, August 31 and Saturday, September 5 to enable Aurizon to work on the final stage of the Wiggins Island rail project.

BMD Constructions, on behalf of Aurizon, is currently constructing two new bridges (one road, one rail) about 150m from its intersection with Gladstone-Mt Larcom Road.

Calliope River Rd is currently restricted to a single lane operating under traffic control during working hours, and traffic light at other times.

However, during this construction period, Calliope River Road Bridge will be closed in both directions for up to an hour, with traffic control deployed to ensure the safety of road users and construction personnel.

Road users are requested to drive carefully and to observe all manual and electronic signage to ensure traffic continues to move safely through the work zones.

Where possible, road users are requested to plan their journeys to factor in additional time or to avoid Calliope River Road altogether.
