Riot set to send LoL players to the bottom of the ocean

Supplied

THE folks over at Riot Gaming, the developers behind League of Legends, have just announced a competition for players to sink their characters to the bottom of the ocean.

Players on the Oceanic server will have to band together to score enough points to unlock a raft of rewards between the 23rd and 31st of January.

The ultimate goal will be to unlock a vote to choose a League of Legends Champion to be made into an artificial reef and sunk to the bottom of the ocean. The statue will have the Summoner Name of every player that contributes at least 3 points during the week recorded on the statue.

There are 12 Ocean Week champions on free-rotation and rewards can be unlocked when playing a PvP game of Blind Pick, Team Builder or Twisted Treeline when it's available.

Every time a Summoner wins a game using an Ocean Week champion they'll contribute 1 point to the community goals and anyone that earns 3 points before the artificial reef gets unlocked will have their Summoner Name recorded on it.

A server-wide vote between Champions Nautilus, Fizz, and Nami will also take place to determine the identity of the final statue that will live on the ocean floor.

"We wanted to make something cool that players could contribute towards," said Mirko Gozzo, Country Manager for Riot Games Oceania.

"We've been working with a marine biologist and an artificial reef company to make sure we create something that is good for the environment and means something to players."

Also up for grabs during Ocean Week are an IP Boost, Mystery Gifting Upgrade and more! There will also be free account transfers to the Oceanic server for players from the North American server.

Check out the official announcement from 23rd January or follow @LOL_Oceania or #OceanWeek for more information.
