Riders saddle up for annual Bororen Pony Club gymkhana

BOROREN Pony Club is on the rise, holding its annual gymkhana this weekend and also an open sports day for the first time in years.

The club is aiming to drum up support on the weekend.

"We didn't have the sports day last year, we are trying to build it up again," club secretary Brenda Serris said.

"It is our open sports day. We are opening it up to the community.

"You pay nomination per event."

The sports day will be held on Saturday, while the gymkhana will be the more serious affair and run on Sunday.

Open only to members of pony clubs, Serris said the gymkhana would be the most hotly contested event.

"There are nine age groups," she said.

"We have 11 events. It starts at nine o'clock."

Serris is encouraging anyone who has not seen pony club events before to take the time to venture into a new sport.

"People can come along and spectate," she said.

"The pony club grounds are at the southern end of Wadeleigh St in Bororen.

"We are hoping it is going to be a good turnout."
