10-year Grant Sky Blues til he dies

It's a milestone few players achieve - but Sydney FC fullback Rhyan Grant has his eyes on even greater longevity.

On Friday night Grant will celebrate 10 years with Sydney FC, exactly a decade from his debut against the same opponents.

But aged just 27, Grant would like to keep on racking up appearances and years of service for the Sky Blues.

"It's something I'm pretty proud of, it doesn't happen very often," Grant said of his 10-year service. "To happen at a big club like Sydney FC is special.

"It depends how the body holds up, but you never know (how long he could go). I'm still relatively young at 27. If all goes to plan I can play for another six or seven years. Getting to 15 years with Sydney would be really cool."

Friday night is likely to be his last game for Sydney for several weeks, with Grant expected to be named in Graham Arnold's Socceroos squad for the Asian Cup.

"I'm not confident but it would be pretty special to represent your country again," Grant said. "I've got a taste for it, so I definitely want to get back in there. I'd be over the moon."

Meanwhile, Central Coast Mariners striker Ross McCormack has been cleared of serious injury and is expected to return to the league's bottom side early in the New Year.

McCormack returned to England to be assessed by parent club Aston Villa last week, after suffering a kick on his knee in training.

Initial assessments found a lateral collateral ligament strain but also some historic damage elsewhere in his knee.

However Villa's medical staff do not believe the problem is unmanageable, and McCormack is due to return to the Mariners on December 27th, ready to continue his rehab with an eye to being available for selection a fortnight later.

The striker has scored only once for the Gosford club after signing on loan ahead of this season.
