Opinion: Review almost as flawed as harbour's bund wall

IT'S been a long time coming, but finally the review about the failure of Gladstone Harbour's bund wall development has been released.

Environment Minister Greg Hunt wanted the review to be a quick one.

It was obvious from the outset that if the task was to be completed properly it would take longer than that.

Now it has been released, there are still a pile of questions to be asked, and one can be certain that the issue won't just go away.

The review has slated what one would expect to have been an over-exuberant government keen to get the job underway no matter what.

It shows that the EIS guidelines were too vague, and that government agency monitoring staff had no chance whatsoever to keep a close eye on activities.

The fact that the design of the wall and its construction were found to be less than satisfactory should be no surprise. It was obvious by the amount of leakage.

However, the wall is now holding and all should be well from herein.
