Residents urged to save water despite predicted rain

PEOPLE with homes connected to Lenthalls Dam are being urged to save water where possible despite the supercell storm forecast to hit the Fraser Coast this Friday.

While the Bureau of Meteorology expects up to 100mm to fall in some areas, Wide Bay Water Corporation executive manager Mark Vanner said it was not certain the rain would fall over Lenthalls Dam's catchment areas.

The dam services homes in Hervey Bay, Toogoom, Burrum Heads, Howard and Torbanlea.

"So we encourage residents to continue to be conscious of their water consumption as restrictions still apply," he said.

Despite average daily water consumption from the dam dropping from about 18.6 mega litres in the first two weeks of January to about 16.1 mega litres now, Mr Vanner said the message on water conservation still needed to be heeded at all times.

"We are still seeing issues (and) we want to send a strong message that restrictions need to be followed."

Lenthalls Dam is currently sitting at 57.2% capacity.

Mr Vanner said about 30% less water was consumed on the days rain falls.
