Hundreds sign petition to re-open Beecher boat ramp

BEECHER residents are not giving up on their fight to have a boat ramp, after theirs was unexpectedly closed last month.

The residents are petitioning to reopen the boat ramp, and they have more than 300 signatures already.

On Monday 12 people met with a Gladstone Regional Council representative.

Resident Lyn Homann said the meeting was quite heated at the start.

"We're all ratepayers of Gladstone so why can't we have a boat ramp too?" she asked.

"We just want a fair go and for them to listen to our concerns.

"It's been there for 30 years and there was never a problem with it.

"So now we've got to make a proposal to build a new boat ramp or make the existing ramp up to standards," she said.

The closure was undertaken to control the erosion, but residents are still disappointed there was no consultation.

Ms Homann said she did not realise how widely used the boat ramp was until they started the petition.

"People from Calliope, Beecher, Burua all used it and even Calliope too.

"Some Clinton residents would use it too," she said.

To sign the petition visit the Beecher Nursery or Daly's Meats at Clinton.
