Residents invited to watch council hand down budget

RESIDENTS have been invited to attend Gladstone Regional Council's special meeting to hand down its Budget 2015/16 next week.

Acting Mayor Matt Burnett said the council had spent several months preparing the upcoming budget to ensure it met the needs of the community.

"At a time when there are significant funding cutbacks from other tiers of government, it has been imperative that we heavily scrutinised our existing spending and service levels to identify where realistic cost savings could be made," Cr Burnett said.

"I am sure the budget will responsibly deliver services to the community and place us in a good position for the future, without placing greater pressure on ratepayers."

The meeting is scheduled for 11am on Monday, July 6 in the boardroom of the Gladstone Civic Centre, 101 Goondoon St.

Council's Operational Plan and Budget 2015/16 will be available for download from council's website at www.gladstone.qld.gov.au/budget.
