Reserves: Yaralla too strong for young Colts
CRICKET: Yaralla Cricket Club has extended its lead on top of the Gladstone Cricket Incorporated reserve grade ladder after a crushing nine wicket win against BRITS Colts at the weekend.
In similar circumstances to The Glen and BITS in A-grade, the ball was the main weapon with Yaralla dismissing Colts for only 51.
Colts won the toss and decided to bat, making a decent start with Jake Holmes smashing a quick-fire 15, before being bowled with the score on 17.
However, that was the best Colts could muster as their young side lost the next nine wickets for only 34 runs.
Yaralla skipper Matt Fairhall took 4/3 off three overs and was twice on a hat-trick, while Ross Stephenson and Matt Chadwick claimed two scalps each.
"We were a little bit slow early on but once the guys adjusted their line and got it back on target we were able to go through the young fellas pretty easily,” Fairhall said.
"It was a good performance by everyone who bowled.”
Yaralla only lost one wicket in reply to Colts' total, with Chadwick falling for 27 in an innings featuring three fours and two sixes.
Brad Eggmolesse remained unbeaten on 16 as Yaralla chased down the total inside nine overs.
