Relay For Life off to good start

WALKING fundraising event Relay For Life is set to be bigger than ever if registrations continue to flourish.

Gladstone Relay For Life chairman Col Chapman said there were already 12 teams registered for this year’s event.

“For this time of year, for the fact that we’ve just started, we are up on last year,” he said.

“We’ve got twice as many registered for the same time as last year.”

Some teams already registered include Chanel College, Team Coffee Club Tannum Sands and Tannum High Staff.

The Gladstone Relay for Life committee met on Monday night, with discussions focused on team recruitments and the event’s launch on Good Friday at the marina.

Mr Chapman said the committee would be focusing on getting teams registered and fundraising for the relay.

“Our goal is to raise $155,000 and have 80 teams competing,” he said.

“Last year we had 57 teams.”

The event will take place at Chanel College, on the Dawson Highway, on July 31 and August 1.
