Regulars enjoy quieter race day at Gladstone Turf Club
WITH only three marquees filled and four local races, the Gladstone Turf Club didn't have the numbers on its side on Saturday.
But the couple of hundred punters who did attend the Ferguson Park meet were smiling, with sunshine, non-existent queues and thrilling finishes making for a pleasant day.
Fashions were more on the summery side with fluorescent fabrics and thongs spotted alongside the more traditional fascinators and lace.
Racing regular Heidi Hohn and Gladstone races novice Bri Thompson travelled down from Rockhampton for the meet to watch bay mare Pattaya, who is trained by Heidi's sister Zoe Hohn, place third in the Class B Handicap.
"It's a lot quieter than Rockhampton but it's nice," said Heidi, who will have a horse running this month at the Rockhampton races.
The Easter Saturday Race Day on April 19 is expected to pull a larger throng than the weekend, with residents encouraged to get in early and buy their tickets online at www.gladstoneturfclub.com.au.
