VIDEO | Cutting council debt a top priority: Mayor Burnett
MATT Burnett was sworn in as the third Gladstone Regional Council mayor yesterday in front of about 40 friends, family and supporters.
The small event in the council chamber lasted about 15 minutes on Mayor Burnett's father's birthday.
"It's all very good and time to get into it," he said.
He said he wouldn't be bringing out the mayoral robes but there would be some changes.
"Decisions in the council are decided by a majority, but there are some operational issues the mayor can be involved in and day-to-day running of the council," he said.
He said he had been following the councillor results closely and would work happily with anyone in the top 10.
He said one of the main tasks of the new council would be to go through the budget "line by line".
"To see where we can reduce expenses to reduce costs for the ratepayers," he said.
"Given opportunity we will be able to reduce that expense."
