Fires burn across region in sure sign season has started

SEVEN Queensland Fire and Rescue crews are at the scene of a large grass fire burning at Mt Morgan.

The fire is in the vicinity of Hempseed Rd and Trotters Creek Rd. The fire service says there is no immediate threat to property.

Fire crews will be conducting backburning operations on Tuesday afternoon and a large amount of smoke will be visible in the area.

It's another sign that fire season has arrived, and those on the frontline are doing their best to ensure Gladstone people and properties come out of the season unscathed.

Gladstone Regional Council staff conducted controlled burns at Bulgwyn Park, next to Palm Dr and Blain Dr, West Gladstone on Monday, while firefighters were called to a blaze 500m south of Tannum Sands Caravan Park in the afternoon.

No homes were threatened but authorities decided to proceed with preventative backburning overnight.

Gladstone QFRS Urban Command acting inspector Craig Gregory encouraged people in rural areas to start reducing the fuel load on their properties as a tinder-dry summer approached.
