New Wallabys player standout in Harvey Road 9s
JOINING Wallabys this season from the Calliope Roosters (who do not have an A grade team), Dan McClinton followed a few players to the club in search of an A grade position.
If his performance in the Harvey Road 9s Tournament is anything to go by, the forward will be locked in to wear a top-grade jersey all year long.
Not usually one for crossing the stripe, McClinton bagged himself a few four-pointers.
He credited the more open game for his success but said no matter the format, Wallabys will surprise some teams during the season.
"It will be a good season for us. Wallabys are very open and a lot of the boys from Calliope are Wallabys juniors and they will shine back at the club," he said.
McClinton also had nothing but good words to say about the tournament, believing it adds spice to the beginning of the year.
He thought the season was too long for the amount of players in town and is glad the year is broken up by a different concept.
"I like the fact that we can change it from just playing each other too much," he said.
"The season was way too long.
"You have a good run in this tournament, then you have Easter and then the season."
McClinton's Wallabys may not have won the day, but he is already seeing things picking up.
He is happy to have a club which would throw him a jersey.
"It has been a very welcoming club, especially considering I was not liked in the last few seasons," he laughed.
