Meagher murder highlights need to reclaim the night

EVERY woman has the right to feel safe.

Recently, the tragic rape and murder of Jill Meagher highlighted that sexual violence still exists within the Australian community.

Tonight the Gladstone community will join in a global protest against sexual violence with Reclaim the Night.

Walkers will gather at the Community Advisory Service on Oaka Lane at 6pm before the march starts up Goondoon Street at 6.30pm.

A rally will be held at 7pm at Library Square including speeches, a candle lighting ceremony and songs from the heart.

Robyn Liddell, counsellor and community educator at Gladstone Sexual Assault Service, said the service was busier than ever.

"That tells a story in itself."
