'Really powerful': Popular TV show tour is coming to Gladstone
THE popular television show has graced our screens for more than a decade and now they're packing their bags with their sights firmly set.
RocKwiz co-creator and judge Brian Nankervis said they would be producing something special, exclusive to Gladstone's eyes.
"The beauty of live shows, it makes it special and it's something not everyone sees ... that's our theory," Nankervis said.
Mixing audience members with rock music legends and emerging artists to partake in music quiz's with host Julie Zemiro, proves to be the gift that keeps giving.
"There is something really powerful about music," Nankervis said.
"(The audience) particularly likes the idea of revisiting the past ... that's a really strong connection for a lot of people."
Rock legends including Jimmy Barnes, Courtney Barnett, Paul Kelly and Steven Earle have all made appearances on the show, although some musicians are hard to pin down.
"We seem to have trouble trying to convince John Farnham to come on the show," Nankervis said.
"We've been asking him for a few years.
"Some artists feel (that) if they go on and the (audience members) either side of them might know more then they do, it's potentially intimidating."
Although Nankervis said he enjoyed filming the show each week, going on tour was exciting.
Nankervis said the fluidity of performing every day for the live shows meant they could implement ideas quicker than the weekly recordings.
"There's something about being on the road and away, it's like a camp and we develop little ideas and jokes, it's fun," he said.
"It's a very real connection we make with audiences, the show works well as a live show.
"The tellie is great but you have to hit your mark every time."
Throwing frisbees, sharing stories and assigning road trip DJs is just a glimpse of the fun Nankervis and the team will have on tour.
"We might get a frisbee out and limber up before the show and find a park near by," Nankervis said. "I'm always keen to have a swim somewhere, my motto is never regret a swim."
The RocKwiz Live tour will be in Gladstone on Wednesday, July 12 at the Gladstone Entertainment and Convention Centre. Tickets selling on March 10.
"(The live shows) are incredible fun, it's really liberating ... bigger and louder, bolder and longer," Nankervis said.
