Reaching for the stars a reality
A YOUNG dancing star has dazzled her way to the National Championships.
Seven year-old Makailei Bath has qualified for the Jump Dance Challenge National Championships to be held in Melbourne in July of 2020.
Makailei will compete in the Classical Ballet and Jazz solo events in Melbourne with the support of her mother Sam.
Makailei qualified for nationals after a strong showing on the Sunshine Coast.
"Before she made the Nationals, she received the second highest score overall for the petite division and she also made the championship final that night after all the sections were finished at the Sunshine Coast,” Bath
"She did four dances and qualified in the classical ballet and jazz solos at the Sunshine Coast Jump Dance Challenge.”
Makailei puts in the hard yards with lots of training and study to get to where she is and where she wants to go.
"She's competed at the Eisteddfods in Maryborough, Gympie, Bundaberg, Gladstone, Rockhampton, Sunshine Coast and Biloela,” Bath said.
"She trains six and a half hours a week. Monday afternoon, Wednesday morning, Wednesday afternoon and Friday night.
"She also just completed her grade 1 tap and jazz through the Australasian Dance Association and received the highest mark through both those exams.
"It all contributes to her performance and goes to show she's doing so well.”
Makailei will next compete at the Biloela Eisteddfod Dance section from September 6-12.
