Raw energy will attract the rev-heads

DRAGS: The weather gods are finally set to smile down on the Benaraby Raceway Complex tomorrow and Saturday.

After the first three rounds of the Central Queensland Drag Racing Association were washed, dry weather is forecast this weekend.

CQDRA president Col O'Connor said it would be a big weekend, especially on Saturday with the Horsepower Heaven-themed afternoon and evening.

"We have got a few of the Kenda Radial boys here and they raced down in Willowbank and in Sydney," he said of the contingent who competed in the high-powered Kenda Tires 660 Drag Radial Series.

"There are 30 or something of them coming up and they drive a lot of the very quick cars that race over the eighth-mile.

"Some would race at over the 170 miles per hour, so they are pretty quick cars."

Tomorrow's Off Street Meet starts from 6pm with the Benaraby office open for entrants 5-7pm.

"There will be a fair few of the Radial cars on Friday night to do a bit of test and tune as well," O'Connor said.

Saturday's racing, which starts with qualifying from noon-4pm, will also include a Chicago Shootout format from 5.30-10pm.

O'Connor said points would also be up for grabs for the local drivers.

"It's normally close racing between them anyway and there are going to be 70-80 odd of our local racers as well who will be competing for our track championships," he said.

The series continues through to November so that means there's more than enough time for drivers to get their cars tuned toward the pointy end of the season.

"We've still got a fair few rounds to go but with the first three being rained out, there's not too many points between the first-placed and the last-placed," O'Connor said.
