Gladstone ratepayers cough up hundred of thousands in interest

RATEPAYERS paid $68,000 in interest over August for not paying their rates on time, council documents reveal.

It's just 25.07% of the $250,000 that the region's ratepayers have racked up for not paying their rates on time.

>>A month left to score Gladstone rates discount

Early birds had already paid $5.345 million, or 3.46%, of the $129.632 million due before the end of last month.

It was slightly higher than the previous year, but council coffers expect the money has already begun to flood as ratepayers take advantage of the 10%, which expired 10 days ago, or the 5% discount that expires on October 17.
