Rapper found dead in boot after crash

The search for emerging US rapper Brian Trotter - aka "Kent Won't Stop" - has ended in tragedy after his body was found in the trunk of his friend's car.

The grim discovery was made after the vehicle crashed on an expressway in Florida over the weekend during bad weather.

The car - an Acura which belonged to Robert Avery Coltrain - raised suspicions after authorities who arrived at the scene noticed flies surrounding it as well as a "foul odour", the Miami Herald reports.

Officers found the body of the 25-year-old hip hop artist - who had vanished a week earlier - inside the car, as well as a Glock .45 pistol.

According to a police report, Mr Trotter's body was found "wrapped in a piece of fabric and in an advanced stage of decomposition", Miami-Dade Detective Omar Manresa wrote.

The pair had been friends for years after attending high school together, and the rapper's father, who is also named Brian Trotter, told the publication Mr Coltrain picked up his son on October 17, with the intention of taking pictures in Washington DC.

Mr Trotter said Mr Coltrain was acting suspiciously when he arrived at his home, and that he reported his son as missing when he failed to reappear.

"I heard a knock on the door. It was Rob. He was very reluctant to talk to me. I noticed he was acting really strange," Mr Trotter told the Miami Herald.

"Usually, Rob comes in the house. This time, he was real distant and nervous and antsy."

Mr Coltrain was arrested on Monday and charged with second-degree murder and illegal transport of human remains.

According to Fox News reporter Tisha Lewis, Mr Trotter's family grew increasingly concerned after they failed to reach him and after they saw "troubling posts on social media about Trotter owing someone a large sum of money".

Investigators are still trying to determine a motive for the slaying, which has also stumped Mr Trotter's heartbroken family.

"No one can understand what happened," Mr Trotter's father told the Miami Herald.

"Hopefully, police can shed a light on what made a friend of over 10 years decide to commit something like that."
