Range roadworks expected to cause delays

DELAYS are expected on the Sarina Range over coming weeks.

The Department of Transport and Main Roads has advised the roadworks undertaken on Marlborough Sarina Road will impact drivers.

The road underwent extensive repair works after high intensity rainfall from Severe Tropical Cyclone Debbie in 2017 caused geotechnical failure along the range creating large landslips and cracks.

Residents living in the area needed to take an alternate route down the range, taking their drive from 20 minutes to 60-80 minutes one way while the road was closed.

The multmillion-dollar works started in 2017 and took about two years to complete.

A TMR spokesman said the range would be under 24-hour traffic control with a single lane operating for the duration of the works.

The works will begin on Monday at 6am and run through to Friday August 7 at 5pm, weather permitting.

Road users are advised to allow extra travel time and to take care while travelling through the roadworks.
