Being on stage with jazz greats a bonus for trumpet star
PLAYING the trumpet for the past 35 years has afforded Ralph Pyl many pleasures.
Among them is travelling all over the country with the best jazz artists from across the globe.
As a permanent member of Tom Burlinson's eight-piece band, Ralph travels to share his passion with new audiences.
"Jazz and fusion is my favourite music," he said.
"To me the best thing is looking into the crowd and seeing happy faces of people enjoying themselves."
The list of musicians he has had the pleasure of performing with includes Bob Florence, Wayne Bergeron, Maria Schneider, Bobby Shew, Rob McConnell, Anthony Warlow and Tommy Tycho.
Headlining Jazz and Shiraz on Sunday night, Tom Burlinson was a long awaited gig for Gladstone audiences.
"I'm really his right-hand man during his tours," Ralph said. "It's not a bad way to live."
