Rain spoils the fun
CHILDREN excited about an excursion to the movies had very long faces when taxis didn’t arrive to pick them up, even though they were booked in advance.
Nor were their parents impressed when they found out two taxi buses had showed up half-an-hour late to pick up their children at the Outside School Hours Care at Star of the Sea School.
Staff took the decision to cancel the trip at 9.15, 20 minutes after they were expecting to be heading to the cinema.
Gillian Loane knew her daughter Abagail would have been upset when the movie plans fell through, and had sympathy for staff members who had to get the children’s spirits up again.
“I know how organised and well-planned the program is, the service is great,” she said.
Hayden and Mackenzie Price were looking forward to seeing the film and had been talking about it before being dropped off in the morning.
“It was really disappointing for the kids. It’s hard enough for them going to care when a lot of their friends get to stay home,” Angelique Price said. “The taxi service should make a special effort when kids are involved.”
“This isn’t the first incident; it’s pretty poor,” Ms Luders said.
Blue and White Taxis chairman Allan Rowe said the company accepted responsibility for the mistake and apologised.
Mr Rowe said the missed booking came about after rain in Townsville and Mackay caused pandemonium at the call centre.
“This is no excuse and not something we take lightly, we don’t like missing a booking,” Mr Rowe said.
“Steps have been put in place to ensure this doesn’t happen again.”
A free bus has been provided by Walz Construction for the excursion planned for next week.
