Man on drugs charges, with history, refused bail

UPDATE 12.30pm:

Bail has been refused for Garet Louis Gerrard who appeared in Gladstone Magistrate's Court this morning wearing a black t-shirt. He kept his arms folded in the dock, his father in boardies and thongs in the public gallery.

Magistrate Jeffrey Clarke took some minutes to read through the police objections. Police opposed bail saying he had received a jail term for supplying a schedule 1 drug in 2011.

Magistrate Clarke said Gerrard's criminal record was littered with drug offences since 2006.

He found that in the police affidavit before him there appeared to be a very strong trafficking case.

"The case against him of grooming a child is a very strong case in the information disclosed," Mr Clarke said.

Although Gerrard's father at Tannum Sands said his son would live with him Mr Clarke said he was not satisfied this would allay police fears.

Bail was refused and Gerrard will be remanded in custody until April 26.

The maximum sentence for supplying the drug ice to a minor is 25 years.

EARLIER

POLICE will allege the man arrested following a drug raid in Tannum Sands used "a carriage service procure" a child under 16.

Police also charged the man with aggravated supply of dangerous drugs to a minor under 16 years, aggravated supply of dangerous drugs under schedule 1 to a minor under 16 years, and two charges of trafficking and dangerous drugs.

Dog squads flanked by Australian Border Force personnel executed a search warrant yesterday at a Latrobe Street house where it will be alleged they located a quantity of drugs.

A Queensland police media spokesman said last night "specialist police" were still combing the property.

Police are expected to provide an update at 9am.

The man is expected to appear at Gladstone Magistrates Court this morning.
