Queensland police given 5000 photos from Main Roads
THE number of images the Department of Transport and Main Roads released to Queensland Police jumped from one to nearly 5000 in just one year.
The images, which primarily come from drivers' licenses and proof of age cards, are used to help police identify people as part of their duties.
But changes in the law regarding the release of images to Queensland police, means the identification can occur while police are on the road, through their smart devices, rather than returning to the station.
That has meant more images were being sent to police for the 2013-14 financial year, compared to the year before.
In 2012-13, the number of images released to QPS from the department was one. In 2013-14, that number jumped to 4951.
