Quality time with the kids is worth every cent
IN the past few weeks a few people have said that they love hearing me talk about my kids in this column.
Two days ago my kids were a big part of my life because again I was up seeing them and spending some quality 'dad and kids' time.
I love the time we spend together, but I have to admit the 10-hour drive is quite taxing on this little body of mine.
But as my daughter quoted on Saturday "and it's worth every second you're here, hey dad…and worth every cent on fuel".. That's why I do it.
On the weekend we set ourselves up in the apartment and went exploring the city.
Obviously as my daughter is 10 and that age where any shop that involves clothes is quite the destination.
My son and I roll our eyes, but we secretly love it as we are all together.
One thing I didn't realise really was how cool the small things in life can be.
We went into this one shop to look at phone cases and before we could get to that section we had found the best weekend toy ever!
Do you remember playing hand ball at school all those years ago?
I do, and the kids say they play it as well, so after we saw this great toy, a pack of hand ball balls, we had to have it.
It only cost $4 and I can tell you this pack of four balls had us having the best fun and moving around everywhere for the two days.
We were playing in the car park, the shopping centre forecourt, the local council swimming pool entrance, and we were even playing while waiting for our burgers from the local shop.
I can't say everyone was happy, but I can tell you it brought us all together for quite a few hours, and of course we burned a few calories in the process.
The other thing that caught our attention was a new app on the phone that records slow-mo videos.
Since we found it we were filming ourselves acting like the "Oh what a feeling" ads.
We filmed ourselves slow-mo diving into the pool, catching balls, and the obligatory "all three of us star jump at the same time".
All I can say is that the weekend was brilliant. Looking forward to the next one!
