Qld Labor promises $100m to improve Great Barrier Reef
A LABOR government would spend $100 million on improving water quality in the Great Barrier Reef the party announced this morning.
Speaking in Cairns this morning Labor leader Annastacia Palaszczuk said if they won government they would invest $20 million over five years and create a "high-level taskforce" to fight for increased Federal funding for the reef.
"The poor health of the Great Barrier Reef has attracted international attention," she said.
"Australia faces the real possibility that the United National Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) World Heritage Committee will decide to official list the reef as 'in danger' in 2015."
While the LNP has not announced a reef policy they have pointed to the Abbott Point port development downsizing under their government as evidence to their commitment to the Great Barrier Reef.
