Public corners runaway driver

A MAN will appear in court today following a bizarre high- speed accident in Boyne Island yesterday .

The 35-year-old Gladstone man has been charged with a string of offences after the Ford Falcon sedan he was driving veered off the roadway into bushland at the corner of Tarcoola Drive and Malpas Street yesterday morning.

Members of the public cornered the man at the Colyer Park pond in Edward Street after he and two female occupants fled on foot from the wrecked vehicle.

He was subsequently charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, driving a motor vehicle while unlicensed and failing to comply with the duties of a driver involved in a crash.

It is alleged the man was only minutes earlier observed driving at excessive speeds and overtaking vehicles after colliding with a Daewoo Lanos and failing to stop at the scene.
