Protest outside new Alma Park Zoo at Big Pineapple

THEY stood firm outside Lennon Bros Circus. Now a group of animal rights activists is planning to protest outside the Sunshine Coast's newest zoo.

Cailin Green will be outside the Alma Park Zoo at the Big Pineapple, Woombye, from 11am today, raising awareness of "the animals captured in there".

Miss Green says keeping the animals enclosed in the same place causes them to "become very distressed". "Those which are hand-fed in a zoo become mentally unwell," she said.

Miss Green has spent hours doing internet research on the subject.

She also has been in contact with outspoken animal rights campaigner, Jaylene Musgrave, from Vegan Warriors.

She says she has contacted the RSPCA, asking the animal welfare group to inspect the zoo. "I don't agree with the idea that animals should be used as entertainment," she said.

She has promised not to hand out pamphlets showing frightening images of animals in distress to children.

She has not contacted Alma Park or the Big Pineapple advising of the protest.

Alma Park did not respond to the Daily.
