Many properties dodged Marcia, but not Thursday's storm
THURSDAY'S storm may have played havoc in some areas, but overall the damage bill was nowhere near that of February's Cyclone Marcia.
Interestingly enough, insurance broker Peter Peirano said about 75% of the claims they had seen so far were for properties which had seen no damage in the cyclone.
He doesn't believe the damage bill will climb above $5million, whereas Marcia left behind a trail of destruction worth almost $600million.
"We got 400 claims from the cyclone, but we wouldn't have gotten 40 from this (storm)," Peter said.
"The strange thing is with the claims… by far the majority (of properties) were not affected during the cyclone."
Many claims came from Denham St and Musgrave St.
Businesses in the CBD were also damaged including Chemist Warehouse and Green Brothers, with the cricket club and Callaghan Park also copping the full force of the destructive winds.
While official readings indicated winds reached 95kmh, local fishermen reported readings of 130kmh.
