Crossroads project under way

AFTER all the talk, all the politics and all the campaigning, it has finally begun.

The weather was dark at the Calliope Crossroads yesterday, but the mood was bright.

Construction of a $150 million upgrade to the intersection has begun.

Gladstone Regional Mayor Gail Sellers and Federal Transport Minister Anthony Albanese began the construction process by turning the first sods yesterday.

Cr Sellers said the moment had been a long time coming, but the outcome would be good not only for efficiency at the notorious intersection but also safety.
