PHOTOS: Items worth hundreds sell for dollars in Gladstone

A MYERS dress selling for just $5 is one of the hidden gems among one of St Vincent de Paul Gladstone's biggest sales.

The 50% off sale, which started on Wednesday, had customers lining up at the door waiting for the second hand store to open.

A spray painted sheet reading "50% off everything" is hung outside the store - and will remain there while the sale continues until 4pm today.

Manager Rose Hasler said the sale was a spur-of-the-moment decision.

"I only decided to do it (Tuesday) night.

"That's when I spray painted the sheet with '50% off everything'," she said.

With overflowing donation bins and winter looming, they're keen to clean the store of summer stock.

Throughout the year they have an occasional sale, but Ms Hasler said this was their biggest yet.

"It feels nice to do, because it does help out the people who might not have a lot of money coming in at the moment," she said. It one of the store's busiest days for volunteers Stephanie Daetz and Colleen Swann.

"There were actually people lined up out the door when we opened," Ms Daetz said.

"This is the first time we've had a break, and its 3pm," she said on Wednesday. While there are plenty of clothes, toys, bric-a-brac and more, the store is running low on plastic bags - leading Ms Hasler to make a call out for plastic bag donations. The St Vincent de Paul store is located on Goondoon St, across from the Gladstone Charter Square shopping centre.
