Stylist powering up for proms

HAIR styling boot camp readied Tash Cox for her prom duties.

The senior stylist at Cathy's Scissors participated in a week-long course conducted by Sharon Blain.

"She is one of Australia's top hairdressers and she holds boot camps all around the world," Ms Cox said.

There she learnt the basics of hair styling which has become her passion.

"I love upstyling."

She said the most popular hairstyles for prom were curls, leaving hair down or over to the side.

But she said no girl was at risk of seeing an identical hair-do on a classmate.

"Not only do they have different looks, their dress is different too."

Before Ms Cox gets started on any hair styling, she said she goes through a consultation first.

The things that needed to be considered were the style of the dress, jewellery and accessories.

"If they have a one shoulder dress, it is better for an up or side style.

"Sometimes you want the hair to be the main feature or sometimes you want the dress to be the main feature."

Her advice to prom-goers was if they had a particular upstyle in mind to bring in a photo.
