Power women lose two from two
GLADSTONE Port City Power's women team were sent back to earth with a pair of losses against Gold Coast Rollers and South West Metro.
However it was not all doom and gloom with captain Maddy Willey again outstanding and Markel Williams superb yesterday.
She stroked 44 points in Power's 89-80 loss to SWM yesterday in an entertaining match.
Metro held sway for the large part of the match, but through the efforts of Williams and Willey, the visitors managed to enter the final quarter with confidence.
The Power kept in it, but SWM's Sidney Parsons was brilliant with an amazing 50 points.
Willey shot 19 and the promising Kiah Guinea chipped in with eight points in a game in which experienced Charmaine Mellars was not available.
In the first game, Rollers were too powerful against the younger Power side on Saturday.
Mellars tried her best to keep Gladstone in the hunt and indeed the visitors outscored Rollers in the third term to level the scores going into the last stanza.
However all the energy used in the third quarter by Gladstone proved telling as Rollers went into overdrive with a 25-11 quarter.
Willey shone with 29 points and Walker contributed 15.
Rollers' best were Nadeen Payne with 30 and team-mate Brianna Moyes who stroked a classy 24 points.
Gladstone head into this weekend with a few things to work on during the week, but its competitiveness could not be questioned.
Power's coach Ray Cooper will want to notch win number two in front of a sell-out crowd from 6pm this Saturday at Kev Broome Stadium.
