Power to step it up this week down on the Gold Coast

BASKETBALL: Today starts a litmus test for the Gladstone Power under-18 boy's team.

The Power will play in the prestigious U18 State Championships on the Gold Coast fresh from an undefeated three-part Central District Carnival campaign.

Gladstone take on Logan Thunder and South West Metro Pirates at 9.30am and 3.30pm today in a championship which consists of the top-12 Queensland teams in division one.

Coach Ray Cooper said the team should be confident after a 15-0 streak at the CDC.

But Cooper realises the state championships is at a different level.

"I am proud of the boys and how they have prepared the last week and a half," he said.

"The boys are excited and confident leading into a tough week ahead."

Gladstone has a well-balanced team with the height of Tibah O'Brien, Luke Knight, Joseph McEldowney and Marley Evans to complement the pace of Ben Harvey, Jake Gudgeon and the electrifying Thasindu Chandrasekara.
