Power to step it up this week down on the Gold Coast

BASKETBALL: Today starts a litmus test for the Gladstone Power under-18 boy's team.

The Power will play in the prestigious U18 State Championships on the Gold Coast fresh from an undefeated three-part Central District Carnival campaign.

Gladstone take on Logan Thunder and South West Metro Pirates at 9.30am and 3.30pm today in a championship which consists of the top-12 Queensland teams in division one.

Coach Ray Cooper said the team should be confident after a 15-0 streak at the CDC.

But Cooper realises the state championships is at a different level.

"I am proud of the boys and how they have prepared the last week and a half," he said.

"The boys are excited and confident leading into a tough week ahead."

Gladstone has a well-balanced team with the height of Tibah O'Brien, Luke Knight, Joseph McEldowney and Marley Evans to complement the pace of Ben Harvey, Jake Gudgeon and the electrifying Thasindu Chandrasekara.

Results can be followed live on Basketball Queensland Sports TG website.
