Phoenix women power on to score six wins out of six

THE Phoenix Gladstone Power Women have made the best possible start to the season, improving to a perfect six wins from six outings.

Power's class proved too much for Toowoomba on Saturday when it took the game 107-70 before bettering Ipswich comfortably on Sunday.

Captain Jess Bibby said she was delighted with the results of a tough and determined effort leading to the wins.

"We left early Saturday morning, so it was good to get up and then tough to back it up the next day and do a good job," Bibby said.

The easy wins at this stage of the season were a great thing for the Power and had allowed all team members to get good court time.

The road trip was a good opportunity to try some new things, and also get Rebecca Haynes some further time.

"She is working hard now and is going to be a strong weapon for us later in the season," Bibby said.

"We are happy to be six from six. We have a tough couple of weeks."

Power now has its sights firmly set on another tough road trip, this time north, to take on Cairns and a return trip to Townsville.

The games are significant because both opposing sides are in Gladstone's pool.

"Pool games are always extra important, but we are confident about them," Bibby said.

The Phoenix Gladstone Power men's side also began their road trip well, toppling Toowoomba 110-70 as new import Braydon Hobbs knocked down 30 points, by eight assists and five rebounds.

The men's side displayed a remarkable teamwork as five players reached double figures in points, hitting 15 threes in the contest.

Import Justin Baker was another standout player. He brought down eight boards, four assists and chipped in with 20 points including three shots from beyond the arc.

The men also faced off against Ipswich on Sunday evening.
