Post-punk rockers set for Gladstone performance

BRISBANE band Young Griffo is nothing short of inspirational.

Blasting alternative rock and post-punk sounds, the three-piece is proud to be supporting Triple J favourite British India on tour.

They are keyed up for their performance in Gladstone at the Harvey Road Tavern tonight.

Formed in 2010, the band consists of the ambitious Paul Craig (guitar and vocals), Matt Gilroy (bass) and Todd Orchard (drums).

Orchard said the trio was looking forward to playing for a new audience.

"We're looking forward to trying out our new songs on a new audience," he said.

"And sharing the stage with British India who in our opinion are one of the best bands kicking around Australia at the moment."

After the release of their single, Pennies, in 2011, which reached the top spot on the Triple J Unearthed Indie charts, Young Griffo is proud to add a new 2012 single, Cutting Sails, to the band's list of accomplishments.

"We recorded this latest album early in the year," Orchard said.

"And we hooked up a video with Xander at the same time."

Orchard said the band's music was inspired by life's ups and downs.

"We certainly draw on some of the darker moments and some of the ironic moments that life provides," he said.

He said the boys were passionate about what they do and were ecstatic with some of their accomplishments.

"Investing your own time and efforts into putting a CD together can be very rewarding," he said.

"We have also had the privilege of opening for a number of bands we have had a lot of respect for."

The band members were brought together by their love of performance and music. "Paul and I have previously played together, as is often the case in Brissy," Orchard said.

"And Paul had previously played with Matt.

"At one stage they wanted a creative outlet of their own and I said I'd get on board.

"We haven't looked back since.

"Time flies when you're having fun."
