Possbile thunderstorm to dampen election day

IT'S likely to get wet at the polling booths late this afternoon and we're not talking about tears of joy, or sadness, from the candidates.

There's a 50% chance Gladstone will see rain today, according to the Bureau of Meteorology which is also forecasting a top of 33 degrees.

Late this afternoon it's possible we'll see a thunderstorm too, so if you're heading to the polls at the last minute be prepared to get caught out.

If you're planning to spend most of the day in the sun don't forget a hat and the sunscreen because the Bureau is also warning of 'extreme' UV rays from 8.30am to 3.40pm.

The polls close at 6pm.
