Pollies promise to re-invent oval

THE Miriam Vale Magpies weren’t just tipping their glasses to the premiership won on Saturday night; they were also drinking to the announcement their beloved sporting oval could be getting a facelift.

In what will be a massive boost to Miriam Vale and surrounding districts, the incumbent Federal member for Flynn, Chris Trevor, has promised $240,000 to the Miriam Vale community should he be re-elected.

The LNP-endorsed candidate for Flynn Ken O’Dowd, has also pledged to match the amount if he is elected on August 21.

The beneficiary would be Gary Larson Oval, the sporting epicentre of Miriam Vale.

The oval, named after Miriam Vale’s famous State of Origin hero is used by the Miriam Vale Magpies rugby league teams and also the touch football association.

The state-of-the-art multi-purpose facility will be utilised by the community and wider districts.

Chairperson of the Gary Larson Oval enhancement group, Owen Harms, said he was extremely appreciative of the pledge.

The improvements could see soccer, netball and even softball getting off the ground, as well as giving a massive boost to all the current tenants of the oval.
