Tannum stabbing accused case adjourned in Townsville

A TANNUM Sands man charged with the attempted murder of a 53-year old woman has had his case adjourned in the Townsville Magistrates Court.

Tyler Melbye, 23, of Tannum Sands, appeared in court on Tuesday.

Mr Melbye was also charged with one count of evading police, two counts of stealing and three counts of entering a premise to commit an indictable offence; one count of assault occasioning bodily harm and two counts of serious assault for injuring a male detective senior constable.

The magistrate adjourned the case to appear in the Gladstone Magistrates Court on November 13.

The charges follow an incident at a Pleasant Ave address in Tannum Sands on Friday after police responded to reports of a stabbing.

The woman sustained injuries and was transported to Gladstone Base Hospital before being airlifted to a Brisbane Hospital.

EARLIER:  Police have charged a man who is alleged to have been involved in the unlawful wounding of a 53-year-old woman at Tannum Sands on Friday.

Police were called to a Pleasant Avenue address at 6.45am after reports that a 53-year-old woman had sustained serious injuries after being stabbed.

The woman was initially transported to Gladstone Hospital and later airlifted to a Brisbane Hospital.

Police located a 23-year-old Tannum Sands man in Townsville this morning.

He has been charged with one count each of attempted murder and evade police, as well as two counts of stealing and three counts of enter premises to commit an indictable offence.

During the interview with police the man allegedly threw a chair at two investigators and assaulted them, causing a male Detective Senior Constable a blood nose.

The man was subsequently charged with assault occasioning bodily harm and two counts of serious assault in relation to this incident.

He is due to appear in the Townsville Magistrates Court tomorrow.

UPDATE 12.15pm: Police have located a man who is alleged to have been involved in the unlawful wounding of a 53-year-old woman at Tannum Sands on Friday.

At 12.08pm police released a statement saying the 23-year-old man had been located.

It is believed the man had been sighted on the Gold Coast and in Newcastle, New South Wales, at the weekend.

EARLIER: Gladstone police are still on the hunt for a man in his 20s after a stabbing in Tannum Sands on Friday morning.

As of yesterday afternoon, Gladstone police said they were still searching for the man in relation to the alleged stabbing of a 53-year-old woman, who suffered serious neck injuries.

The man is described as being Caucasian in appearance, about 183cm tall, in his 20s with a proportionate build and blond hair.

The man left the address and is possibly driving an orange 2007 Kia Rio hatchback.
