After spending two days searching the yard and digging up a what looks like an old garden shed, the investigation of the property has ended.

A human remains detection dog was brought in on Tuesday morning, December 3, to search the property leading detectives to excavate the garden shed and search through a dense garden bed containing a large tire

Officers from the State Crime Command, who investigate serious offences including homicide, child and sexual abuse and organised crime gangs, are leading the investigation at a Chinchilla backyard west of Toowoomba.

Dalby Child Protection and Investigation Unit has now joined the State Crime Command on this matter.

It's still unclear exactly what detectives were searching for, however police have had the property taped off for more than 30 hours, in which time they have been digging and photographing objects located in the dirt, before placing them in evidence bags.

It's understood the home was previously occupied by a young family.

A Queensland Police Spokesman said police have executed a crime scene warrant for the Chinchilla property as part of the investigation.

"Investigators are searching the property and speaking to a number of persons who may be able to assist with the investigation," the spokesman said.
