Grinder used in Nambour gun theft as police hunt third man

UPDATE 2.20pm:

EARLY investigations have revealed a cutting tool appears to have been used in an alleged gun theft in Reilly Rd, Nambour just before 10am.

Inspector Mike Miley confirmed it appeared an angle grinder had been used to cut open a gun safe and remove a rifle at the property.

Investigations are ongoing as police continue to search for a third man involved in the incident.

UPDATE 12.50PM

POLICE have just issued the following statement:

"Two men are assisting police with inquiries following a break and enter at a property in Nambour this morning.

Initial investigations suggested that around 9:55am three men entered the Reilly Road property, one of whom left in possession of a firearm. The firearm has been located as well as two men.

One man who police believes could assist with their enquiries remains outstanding. Police are continuing with inquiries to locate the outstanding man.

Investigations are continuing."

UPDATE 11.30AM: Police are hunting a man they believe was involved in the theft of a gun from a Nambour property this morning.

They are urging members of the public to avoid the area near Reilly Rd, Lamington Terrace and Panorama Dr.

The man is believed to be in his 20s with red hair and red goatee and wearing a white t-shirt.

If any members of the public see him they are urged not to approach him and instead call 000.

A dog squad has joined officers in their search.

UPDATE 11.15AM: A SECOND man has been taken into custody by police. It is understood he was apprehended in a backyard on Nambour's Boyce St.

Another man was earlier taken into custody by police in relation to reports of an armed suspect seen in Nambour.

Police are investigating whether there is a third suspect still to be found.

EARLIER

POLICE are responding to as-yet unconfirmed reports of an armed man in Nambour.

The situation unfolded at about 10.20am, with calls to police from witnesses reporting two men walking the streets, one possibly armed.

Officers are in the area attempting to locate the men.

A Police Media spokeswoman said the type of weapon could not be confirmed at this stage but said police were responding to the reports.

A cordon is being established around the Lamington Tce, Panorama Dr area.

The dog squad has been deployed to assist.
