Barman punched in armed robbery of Toowoomba pub

UPDATE: A barman was punched by a robber brandishing a knife during an early morning robbery at the Wilsonton Hotel.

Management at the hotel has refused to comment on the incident in which a sum of cash was taken.

Toowoomba Criminal Investigation Branch officer-in-charge Paul McCusker said a man possibly aged in his 20s entered the Richmond Dr pub about 1.35am today.

Detective Senior Sergeant McCusker said the hotel was still trading at the time.

He said the robber jumped over the bar and punched a male attendent before obtaining cash, jumping back over the bar and fleeing.

The man was last seen heading towards Kirra St at the rear of the Wilsonton Shopping Centre.

Police believe the man may have been dropped off and picked up in a vehicle in the vicinity of Tara St.

The staff member was not injured.

Police described the robber as about 175cm tall, of athletic build and tanned complexion.

It came as officer continued their investigation of an armed robbery at the 7-Eleven service station on Mackenzie St on Monday morning.

Det. Snr Sgt McCusker said officers were investigating a vehicle which could have been in the area at the time.

EARLIER: Toowoomba police are investigating an armed robbery at the Wilsonton Hotel in the early hours of this morning.

A Police Media spokesman said about 1.50am a young man armed with a knife had jumped the bar of the hotel in Richmond Dr, Wilsonton.

He punched a bar attendant in the face though the employee was not injured in the incident.

Staff handed over a sum of cash and the man fled the scene.

The man was dressed in dark shorts and a grey hoodie.
