REVEALED: 'Police fired shots': Search for former Gladstone man

POLICE have released an image of a man who previously lived in Gladstone as part of a search for a man who evaded arrest near a McDonalds car park yesterday.

Police have emailed a state-wide alert with a picture of 26-year-old Zachariah Hewitt -- also known to Gladstone police -- who they say will be able to help with their enquiries into the incident in Mackay.

Mackay police were attempting to detain a man on an arrest warrant and were intercepting a vehicle when the man fled the scene.

During the unfolding drama, police fire shots.

A McDonald's shift manager said customers were screaming, with one witness reporting "three shots" were fired, according to the Daily Mercury.

Police later said they'd discharged their firearms to "disable" the vehicle. 

They are urging the public to contact police if they see Mr Hewitt.

He's described as Caucasian in appearance, a slim build, and around 170cm tall with dark brown hair and eyes.
