US police find the body of missing Australian soldier

POLICE in the United States have found the body of an Australian soldier who went missing on New Years Eve in upstate New York.

The man, believed to be Townsville-based Captain Paul McKay, disappeared after catching a bus to a remote town in New York state.

It is understood Cpt McKay then walked into freezing conditions in the nearby Adirondack mountains.

The man was found near Lake Placid, with local media reporting police did not believe the death was suspicious.
