Police chopper catches runaway driver in bushes
HIDING in the bushes was not enough to stop a 17-year-old facing charges of stealing a car then driving recklessly along a major highway.
The 17-year-old man from Loganlea was watched by the police helicopter after authorities took a call at 8.30am claiming a driver was behaving erratically on the Pacific Motorway near Mudgeeraba.
When officers arrived, police say the teenager fled.
Watched from the sky, police soon rolled out a strip of tyre spikes.
The car could go no further but the teen was not ready to give himself up, according to police.
He disappeared into nearby bushes -- still under watch from the chopper above.
He is now to face Southport Magistrates Court on four charges including driving dangerously, illegally using a car, not stopping for police and driving unlicensed.
